Hi, I'm Mimi, an artist based in Sydney , Australia. I specialise in creating realistic pet portraits from photographs using oil paintings. I'm originally  from Vietnam. When  I came to Australia by myself without my family and friends, it was difficult with the different culture and language and I felt lonely. During pregnancy with my first son, my husband suggested I take up painting as a hobby - having seen my creativity and knowing my background in makeup artistry,  hairdressing and photography. After a number of visits to the art stores for brushes, paints and canvasses, I began painting...and painting....and painting!

Painting made me feel I had company and was a way to explore my creative side, passion and cure the loneliness! 

Being a photographer, I found Australia had beautiful natural scenery to capture and paint. I painted everything I could see; flowers, landscapes, beaches, waves and wildlife. I loved all the detail and creating realistic art. 

During the covid lockdown I had so much time to paint. I painted a lot of animals and wildlife. Out of all the painting I had done I really enjoyed capturing the expressions and character of animals the most.

I'm  the proud 'mum' of 2 sons and 2 dogs and consider my pets  to be my family, I know how important they are to us and how much we love them . Being asked to paint a pet is a real honour. I love to hear all about their story and I will guide you through the process from choosing a reference photo to keeping you updated as your pet portrait processes into the beautiful life-like painting to cherish for  a lifetime. 

When our two beloved dogs joined our family, I just had to paint them! To me, my pet paintings are not just a piece of art, they turn to treasured gifts and emotional memories of family members.
